2015 The start of Formal Food and 2018 the export market
We started our company FORMAL FOOD AND COMPANY SAS as a consumer food business under an innovative model: the sale of products through mobile carts , which traveled the streets or attended business and private events.
After three years of facing different regulatory barriers — such as the prohibition of selling in public spaces — and without finding a clear path to profitability, we decided to change our business model and the company's legal name.
Then we decided to start exporting lemons to the United States, a business that represented our second setback, but also one of our greatest learning experiences. During this period, we were victims of fraud and lost all our capital.
We traveled to New York hoping to recoup our losses and, at the same time, explore new opportunities for our fledgling export company. The first didn't happen, but we did discover the second: the great potential of soursop , provided we could market it in a different way.
2020 Innovation as a pillar of Formal Food and 2021 the American company
We returned to Colombia with the mission of finding or developing a different product that we could produce and sell in the United States, but that was not processed, that was 100% natural , without preservatives or additives and, most importantly, that retained all the organoleptic and nutritional properties of the fruit.
Thus, by combining technology and creativity, we developed a completely differentiated product: our soursop snack .
After two years of product development and market testing, we decided to create FORMAL FOOD LLC in the United States, with the goal of importing and distributing directly. We believed this was the ideal strategy to reach the largest number of consumers, gain firsthand knowledge of the market, and, in the future, add new products to our portfolio.
2024 Opening of a company in Spain and 2025 expansion of the portfolio
After learning from our experience in the US market, we decided to open a subsidiary in Spain to import and distribute products in the European market. This is how FORMAL FOOD SL was born.
Leveraging the knowledge acquired and the marketing capacity in markets such as the United States and Spain, in addition to our direct presence in them, we decided to expand Formal Food's brand portfolio and establish a new corporate structure.
Formal Food became the umbrella brand and we introduced two new brands in the CPG (Consumer Packaged Goods) category: NUESTRA Foods and MÚKURA.
